Potential Transformers are used for measurement and protective application, together with equipment such as meters and relays. Their role in electrical system is of primary importance as they are means of stepping down the voltage of a system to measurable values, such as 110V in the case of a potential transformer. This offers the advantage that measurement and protective equipment can be standardized on a few values of voltages.
